How does the "sidebar" tool work in the assessment? When should it be used?

This article explains how the "sidebar" tool works, how to use it, and how to configure it.

Updated over a week ago

What is the sidebar?

The sidebar is a tool that was designed and created to bring more fairness and facilitate the evaluation process. It is a tool focused on evaluators and, in our platform, it is divided into 3 sections:

  • (i) "Received Responses" sidebar

  • (ii) "General" sidebar

  • (iii) "Profile" sidebar

Note: the first feature is exclusively available to leaders who are reviewing their direct reports.

Types of Sidebar:

(i) "Received Responses" Sidebar

If you are reviewing a direct report, this tab will show you all the responses that your direct report has received in the review and who wrote each response.

It is important to emphasize that this functionality is only available when a leader is reviewing their direct reports.

(ii) "General" Sidebar

This feature displays information that the individual being reviewed has within the Qulture.Rocks platform.

Assuming that your company has all the products enabled, such as 1:1s, Feedbacks, Praise, OKRs, PDIs, and Reviews, depending on the configuration set up, the reviewer will be able to view the information of the individual being reviewed in this sidebar.

⚠️ Important Note:

There are some rules for presenting the information in this sidebar, and they are as follows:

  1. If a leader is reviewing a direct report, all the information will be displayed, except for the Feedbacks section, if the leader's access is restricted to the received feedbacks.

  2. If a peer is reviewing another peer, only the feedbacks that the reviewer sent to the individual being reviewed will be displayed. The Personal Development Plans (PDI) will not be shown as it is individual information.

  3. If a direct report is reviewing their leader, the same rule mentioned in point 2 applies.

(iii) "Profile" Sidebar

This new tab contains the profile with general information about the employee, such as name, department, position, and more.

It is important to emphasize that this functionality is only available when a leader is reviewing their direct reports or during self-review.

How to configure this sidebar?

When accessing the "Settings" > "Settings" screen, you will find a subsection called "Sidebar Settings," where you can configure which information users will be able to see when responding to a review. The configuration options include:

  1. Employee Information: Allows evaluators to view key employee information. The admin can choose which information will be visible. Some options are only visible to the leader, as mentioned in this article.

  2. Received Responses: Allows a leader to view the responses already received by their direct report when conducting their evaluation.

  3. Show all Questions: Allows a leader to view the responses already received by their direct report for all questions, not just the ones the leader also evaluates. Note: It only shows questions from topics the leader is also involved in.
