Discover the differences between Owner, Responsible, and Contributor

On the Qulture.Rocks platform, it is possible to register and track OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), ensuring alignment of everyone with the company's progress and strategy.

With this functionality, we can input OKRs at individual, team, and company-wide levels, determining who will participate in each of these levels. In this article, you will learn how to make this definition properly.

⚠️ It is important to note that OKRs are displayed on the homepage of all active participants of the Objectives and Key Results, whether as an Owner, Responsible, or Contributor. These OKRs are counted towards the progress and achievement of the results.

🟣 Owner

The first level of definition is the Owner, who determines whether the Objective and its Key Results will be assigned to an individual, a specific team, or the entire company. This choice is made during the creation of the Objective or Project.

Once the Owner is defined, the Objective will appear on the responsible person's dashboard (home page) in the platform. For example, a company Objective will be displayed on the dashboard of the leader responsible for its execution.

🟣 Responsible

The responsible person is the one who is responsible for achieving the Objective or updating the results of the Key Results.

👉 In individual OKRs, the owner and the responsible person are always the same.

👉 In team OKRs, usually the team leader is responsible for the Objective, but different team members can be responsible for the Key Results.

👉 In company OKRs, it is common for the president or CEO to be the person responsible for the Objectives and Key Results.

This example shows Admin Rocks as responsible for the Customer Success area's Objective, but the Key Results have different people of the team in charge.

🟣 Contributors

Contributors are the individuals or teams who work together with the responsible person to achieve the expected results. In the platform, we share the OKRs with the contributors, who can be individuals or teams. In the case of teams, it is possible to configure whether the OKR is displayed only on the team's dashboard or automatically shared with all team members.

Once shared, the Key Results (KRs) can be updated by any of the contributors. In the case of teams, only the team leader has permission to perform this action. The progress of the KRs is equally tracked by all involved, ensuring transparency and collaboration in achieving the results.

In the example above, we have an individual contributor and a team as contributors.

When there are multiple Key Results (KRs) within the same Objective, it is possible to assign different contributors to each of them. In these cases, the KRs will only appear on the dashboard of the related individuals or teams, and therefore, will be counted only for them. In other words, although the Objective is the same, each person can have a different view and quantity of KRs, depending on their specific involvement.
